The relationship between climate and socioeconomic wellbeing is complex and closely interconnected. In this session, we aim to better understand and disentangle this complex system. We will discuss the concept of compound climate extremes and tipping points as the trigger for socioeconomic impacts; the implication of these multiple stressors on our adaptive capacity; and the causal mechanisms by which the climate shocks, together with other non-climate events and preconditions, create a state of poly-crisis. To end the session, we provide a concrete example of how climate vulnerability leads to higher incidence of violence.
